In response to the earlier post regarding the feasability of challenging the actual ticket, any one of us can do so and most likely, win.
How?
In tandem with being a heavy truck builder, I am also a federally licensed metrologist. A metrologist calibrates and certifies equipment used in testing temperature, pressure, absence of pressure(vacuum), weight, tension, and SPEED....plus many other variants of the force/pressure.temperature spectrum.
Sooooo...
The first question we ask the trooper is if they have a recent certificate of accuracy for their radar system, be it laser or otherwise.
The second question we ask them is if the certification vame from an outside, third party source, or if the work was done in-house with inexpensive testing equipment...hang on, it gets better, because...
If they have used in house equipment. well, the governing body that oversees the testing(ASTM) has stated that the testing equipment has to certified every three to six months. If they don't have the proof that this testing equipment has been reset, updated, or at least looked at by an outside source, the validity of that particular piece of radar equipment comes into question..ERGO....no ticket.

Done it twice.

Won twice.

The second time, I wasn't speeding, and had to use my math skills to prove that at 70 mph, you will cover a mile every 48 seconds. If you were stopped on a freeway with heavy traffic, in light rain, from the fast lane, it would take approximately a few hundred feet less than a mile to stop the car AFTER changing lanes.

I was stopped in less than 1/2 a mile, with light braking, no drama.

And the officer was stumped, as he had nowhere to go mathematically.

Anyhow, thought I'd let you all in on their little achilles heel.

Brian
