I agree some of the costs you quote are very high, especially the O2 sensor.

Based on what we see on this board, at 100-120K these cars need some TLC to keep going (in good driving condition) to 200+K. Shocks/Struts, Strut mounts, ball joints, hoses, tensioners, engine mounts, and general tune up items are needed on just about any car by 100K, especially if it's been used for city driving.

Just about anything you buy would have similar problems, but with a Saab you usually have a few more nit-picky little problems that annoy you...especially if you're not the type who can fix the little things by yourself. I've had 5 Saabs over the years, and the reason I kept most of them for up to 200K is because I could do the little things myself, and take the car in to a shop for the bigger items.

If your alternative is a new or nearly new car, think about the overall costs to you. I could afford a brand new Saab, but economically it's more logical to keep my old one. I have liability insurance only (vs hundreds more every month for full coverage) and don't have car payments. So if I have to spend $100-200 a month to keep the Saab in top shape, it's no big deal...and in the end I have more $$ in my account.
I have a cell phone and know that a tow truck is just a phone call away, so no big deal. That's for me.....for my wife on the other hand, I bought a new Volvo. It's ok if I deal with occasional car headaches, but she doesn't need that!
