Help - I over tightened the drain bolt...

I was replacing the drain bolt with the Fumoto valve last night. When I felt pretty tight the valve handle was sticking out below. I wanted it to be flush with the oil pan, which was only about 45 degrees more. So, I slowly pushed and then some thread must have been broken. It's not completely ruined yet though. It's not super tight, it's a little more than hand-tight. Very difficult to move with hand but it moves.
So, here comes my questions. What do you think was ruined, the oil pan or the valve? Valve is made of brass. Oil doesn't leak right now, but would it be okay to leave the way it is (semi-tight) as long as it doen't leak?
I'd really appreciate the opinions from knowledgeable folks here. I can't get if off my mind right now.
