Not sure what you are looking for with this post, but if you want recall work done for free, you will have to go to a dealership. You are not required to spend any money what-so-ever for the recall work. However on a 2001 model car I would not be suprised to find other things wrong with your car. If you don't like what is reported to you, simply leave.
I ALWAYS note glaring safety problems on the repair order, ie, bald tires, low brakes and other easily spotted problems. Why?
1. My employer REQUIRES me to do so.
2. It means more income if the work is upsold.
3. It means I never have be in front of a jury with the lawyer from your estate or the lawyer from the estate of the family of five you just killed answering the question, "Why did you not inform the car owner he/she had this or that unsafe conditon?"
1. No recall for that. There is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) about this conditon. A TSB is to help technicians identify and repair common problems. The repairs are only covered under warranty if the car is still in 4/50 or CPO. The original TSB was released to cover oil leaks from the cylinder head/ timing cover area. In other words Saab requires to try this first before you start replacing other more expensive parts ie, head gaskets and front cover reseal.
The second version was a "better" way to acheive the same goal.
The 3rd version was put out, because some of the second verison cars started consuming more oil under very specfic driving conditions. Just because a TSB exist for your car does not mean your car is broken or will be broken.
2. Fuel return line? There is a recall for the fuel line retainer at the fuel pump on certain 01-02 9-3 cars (mostly covertibles, but some hardtops). A metal reinforcing tab is secured over the plastic one to help to keep it from breaking. If this happens the fuel pressure line will blow out and fuel will start leaking from the top of the tank.
3.There is a impending Recall for Direct Ignition Cassette. The last info from Saab was for the recall to be lanched sometime in March. Meanwhile if a certain year car/engine combos come in with a bad DI, fix it per previous TSBs and we will pay for it.
I don't know:
A. When the recall will start
B. What we will be ask to do as part of that recall
MY BEST GUESS on the recall action will be check the DI date code and replace if under certain value. Next, check the T-7 software and reflash if under a cerain version number. BUT AGAIN, THIS IS ONLY MY BEST GUESS!!!!!
If you want to find out what recalls and campaigns (remember campaigns are also free as long as the campaign has not expired (usually 2 years after issue) reguardless of mileage/time in service) you can;
A. Ask your local dealer to run an IRIS sheet on your car.
B. Call CAC and ask them. Better yet make sure CAC has you current address and that you are registered as the current owner. That way they will send you a notice for any future recalls
Good luck,
Steve C
