I am kicking around looking into 9-3s to upgrade from my current 96 900s 2.3 NA. What I like it getting turbo-charged in the base model. The base has the same HP as the 900 SE without all the "do-dads" like ACC, etc. I would like leather and a sunroof, however.
I am quite familiar with the weak points on the 900s, but am unfamiliar with the 9-3. What I need is a list of things to watch out for when purchasing from a private seller.
Here is what I know so far:
-Sludge issues: what type of oil, how often changed? Also on this topic, head bolt design is weak point: look and ask about any headgasket / sludging / overheating issues. Certainly it would be great to pull the valve cover to look for any sludgy type issues, but this is not always possible.
-5-speed (a must for me): state of clutch? It will last approx 125K at tops (?)
-DI Cassette: original, if not, how new?
