:)
Well I did a half job of testing. I bought some new spark plugs, flippeed over the old DI cassette, put in 4 new spark plugs into it and fired the engine. Not a single spark. So, I figured it was the DI cassette.
I went and got a new DI cassette and no go. One thing I noticed was that upon failure to start there was a terrible grinding sound comming from the engine. Not knowing what it was, I pressume it was the alternator or something along those lines. Needless to say I did not push the matter.
I returned the New DI cassette and bought a new crankshaft position sensor after reading that the tachometer does not move if the CPS is dead. I went in to the store and got a code reader. The code reader read P0300. So I was certain it was the CPS. Unfortunately the car STILL will not start even with a new CPS. The tachometer is STILL not moving. It does sound better and the terrible grinding sound is gone now that I have a new crankshaft position sensor.
I think I am down to the last and worst possible solution: the fuel pump. It did not occurred to me to listen to it at the time. But I have the terrible feeling this is the problem.
I will take it to the a local indie shop monday for them to finilize the diagnosis. There is always the remote possibility that the CPS and DI went at the same time. It just seem some strange that I had no warnings, it just died at cruising speed!
