Right after picking up my '96 900S used with 75k miles, the dash did the exact same thing. The used car dealer replaced the guage cluster. However maybe a month later, it started happening again. I researched and found that there is a wire harness behind the radio that rubs against the radio frame and causes a short. Another possibility is take apart the dimmer switch and take some sodder to it. I would say start with the cheap easy options first and then the guage cluster. Hope that helps.
