Thumbs Down experience Philips "Hi Visibility" bulbs

I replaced both original OEM headlights in my 2001 9-3 on May 23, 2005, at 76,855 miles. This is for a car manufactured in late summer 2000. Phenominal longevity for no-name bulbs built in Eastern Europe.
The installed replacement bulbs: Philips "Hi Visibility" 9003 model.
Driver side Philips failed on January 15, 2006, at 86,205 miles, 200 miles from home, on a Sunday, in rotten, bitter, high wind weather, just before dark, requiring immediate location of auto parts store in otherwise friendly York, PA, in order to finish the high speed run home safely. Delta: less than 10K miles, about 8 months.
Passenger side failed on March 7, 2006, at 87,940 miles. At least this occurred on home turf. Delta: 11K, less than 10 months. Ergo, I conclude the driver's side was no fluke.
Around 8 and 10 months duration, at 10 - 11K miles on the road is a lousy product in my opinion. Wonderful. One has to pay extra money in order to get crappy performance. YMMV, but I doubt it.
In York, I got talked into Silvania Silverstars since they were on sale. However, a post purchase review of OSRAM/Silvania's website reveals that Silverstars have an equal number of lumens to Silvania's own cheaper OEM bulb (so, not any brighter), and they have only a fraction of the number of hours of bulb life as does their own OEM bulb. We shall see. Their own data is consistent with a recent negative report in Consumers Reports on specialty headlight bulbs.
