... but, you've mentioned restoring this car to its "former glory." Not to take that out of context, but, that in and of itself sounds a bit serious. What else does this car need? I may have missed this in a former post, but, how many miles does this car have on it?
Saabs, by there very nature, are not inexpensive to repair. Now, they certainly won't have the same cost as, say, BMWs, Mercedes, Jaguars, etc. but the very nature of the beast is not an 'economy' venture. If you're looking at "restoring" this car, the very nature of that word implies replacing the failed parts with those of original or equal quality. If you're looking to save a buck, I ASSURE you that you will end up paying double for it in the end. I seriously doubt that you will find compatible, let alone equivalent parts, from many, if any, of the vehicles found in the rest of the GM family. Also, the parts for them will very likely not be any less expensive. Exactly, how much are you hoping to spend on the components you seek?
How long have you owned this car? Do you have any or all of the maintenance or repair records? If this car has been neglected (which is implied by your allusion to the word restoration), and if your economic situation is as it appears, given that you're going out of your way to try to find inexpensive substitutes for original parts, you're likely in for a very bumpy and expensive ride.
Of course, please forgive me if I have made any false assumptions. We on this board are here to help and I sincerely hope that your ownership experience is as positive as that of most of the rest of us. I only bring these questions to the fore to encourage deeper thought on the matter.
'Hope you find what you're looking for.
Regards...
