1. Some is normal, some is normal for this model, some is luck of the draw.

Clutch - depends on previous (and your) ability with a clutch. Mine has 100K miles (knock on wood). Most go 100-120K. Driving sytle could severely shorten that. Not unusual for any car, depending on driving.

Muffler - depends on type of driving. Local trips without a good heat cycle tend to wear out mufflers. Your car had low miles when you bought, that suggests local trips, high rust out factor.

Alternator - some folks have had issues, electrical or bearings. Luck of the draw. Most cars go longer. Alternator under $200 part cost. Low labor.

Water pump - bearings seem to go too early on NG900's (although I had a Toyota that had three in 100K 90K miles). So, it's not all that unusual but we hope to not need it. $55 part cost, three hours labor.

FYI - I'm surprised you needed both (same mechanic?) and the combined labor should have been lower than the two jobs.

Heater core - known issue, not normal, Saab defect. I'd check around for replacement cost. Getting the dash out is a big job but I don't know how much of it you have to do for the core replacement.

Brakes - again, a wear item dependent on driving style. My brakes went 100K. Saab brakes should not be particularly expensive to fix. You may need to do the fronts soon if they have not been done.

That heater core will eventually get worse, leaking on the floor. You can probably wait and watch if you want to avoide fixing it but eventually you will have to.

So, a lot of this is normal maint, dependent on driving style. Most of it should not have to be repeated any time soon, depending on driving style. I

I'd be surprised that BMW clutches went 200K miles - but check in a BMW group. Ask abot repairs to the 325. Do some reasearch. BMW's are not inexpensive to fix. They have their own set of problems and issues.

Also, check around for other mechanic's. Yours sounds a lot like a local guy here who calls himself an "engineer", charges way too much, replaces and/or suggests replacing everything that has even a little wear. See if you can find a Saab indie mechanic and work with him. Anders is a Saab indie who suggested $1K for a full clutch job. $1200-$1500 sounds like a dealer price.

I think you've covered a lot of the basics wear items, costs should be lower in the future.
