I always used to torque to 50 lbs in the air because I could hold the wheel and operate the wrench up to about that point. Then I'd lower it and pull them up to 86 lbs.
Then I read a TSB, I think at GS, that specifically said to do it in the air. I have to stick a narrow wedge under the tire to stop it from moving but I now do it in the air.
