Having the brake fluid flushed and replaced before hitting the track makes a LOT of difference. Old fluid absorbs the moisture from the air and can't transfer the heat like it should.
My local Saab shop forgot to change my fluid, and I didn't ask them about it until I was already on the road. The phone conversation went something like this:
shop: "I'm sorry sir, I forgot to put that on the ticket."
Me: "So I'm about to put my car on a racetrack with what is probably 7-year-old brake fluid, right?"
(pause)
shop: "Yes sir. I'm very sorry about that."
(pause)
shop: "But if you bring it in when you get back we'll change it for free."
Me: "Sure. If I don't "turtle" my car this weekend, I'll do that."
You're right, Rodney, these cars are very impressive on the track, even in stock form. I can't wait to see how my car does once I installed the subframe brace, rear strut brace, steering rack brace and rear sway bar. I might even sell my Miata track car because I won't want to drive it anymore!
