Yes, you can adjust the WGA to increase base boost. A SMBC effectively does the same thing while also decreasing boost lag; without changinging the factory setting. With your T5 you could use a MBC+A, but that requires that you do the supporting intake and exhaust mods. If you remove the BPV hose, the engine will take in unfiltered air at idle or any time that the engine is in "over run" as these create manifold vacuum that opens the BPV. So do not do that.
You can do the following: K&N 33-2663, air box 3" duct mod, remove turbo compressor discharge silencer and rework the TBTC. These will all improve things and should be done for a MBC+A or an ECU mod. Note that these simple DIY jobs and very inexpensive. Beyond that a Viggen IC can be installed. If you install a MBC+A, you will probably end up needing to install a metal piston type BPV to eliminate the silly noises that the BPV makes with that setup. Your single largest cost would be the low restriction exhaust system.
With any such changes, you have to use premium fuel, clean injectors and combustiuon chambers with Techron Concentrate, keep plugs in order, use a very good xW40 oil and the engine must be in a good state, not worn from neglect or sludged.
