Do I agree with the dealer? No. At a minimum, ask if the oil pan and oil screen were actually removed and cleaned, not just engine "flushed".

If oil deposits form in the engine for some unknown reason even with regular oil changes, there is a problem. Cleaning the engine cures the symptom, but not the disease.

I have owned my car since day one, and I know how often the oil was changed. Regardless, oil starvation is probably what killed my turbo at 80k miles, and caused premature timing chain, blance chain, and rod bearing wear at 110k miles.

In my opinion, only diff. w. 9-3 models is that it seems to be happening to some of them much earlier. There are probably not as many cars affected as it seems reading posts online, but it is a significant percentage.

Since you are in Wisconsin like I am, if you pm me, I can give you the name of an independent Saab-only shop that has seen lots of engines in the same condition, a couple I have seen personally w. broken chains and chain guides.
