Coolant leak after replacing radiator hoses.

I have a 900se 5 speed with 140k miles. The car has been running great and I have had no major problems with it until after recently getting service I noticed that there is a slight coolant leak near the front passenger side wheel.
The mechanic, who I no longer trust, replaced the upper and lower radiator hoses right before this started happening. When I took it back and asked him to look at it again he said that there was no leak he could find.
The leak looks like its coming from the area where the lower radiator hose connects to the radiator but the hose itself is dry and the clamp seems to be pretty secure.
After reviewing the message boards here, I am starting to suspect the water pump is failing because of the location of the leak. However, I am hesitant to accept this because the radiator hoses were just replaced, and it seems like a small amount of liquid.
So, down to the point if my water pump is failing approximately how much coolant should I expect to loose? Is there an easy way to confirm that the water pump is in fact failing without taking it to a mechanic? And, lastly, are there any other places I should be looking aside from the upper/lower radiator hoses?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
