I have a simular problem. When I push and hold the control (either the manual or auto saved position) the seat would move 1/2 inch or so, then pause for a half second, more another 1/2 inch or so, pause and repeat until released or saved position is reached. It first only did this when the car was off, which I thought was its design (I got the car used), but now it just started to doing it all the time. I also have noticed that one of the auto position buttons is stuck down. The seat does not go to that auto saved position, but that could be causing issues. I was going to take it apart and look at it at some point.
I looked through the archive and found ussues with the seat to be relatively common and usually related to relays under the seats comming out if the seat don't move at all. For the 1/2-1 second pauses I found the following

THe last post states "Found that one of the Seat memory buttons was shorted". Sounds like that is what my problem is.
