We've got a 2001 9-3 5door auto. One of the reasons for buying the base model was she wanted to use regular gas. She's getting 25+mpg on her daily 15 mile rural road commute/grocery getting etc. Last week we took a little trip on the interstate and got about 29 with the A/C on.
I have to use premium (usually 93 octane) in my 2k 9-5 Aero 5 speed but get close to the same mileage, better when I can keep my foot out of the turbo.
I'd look at other reasons for the mileage your reporting.
