As of yet, I have only seen balance sprocket issues on the non turbo engines (15 so far). I have absolutly no clue to why that is.
Only 2 or 3 had marginal dirt in engine and the others were clean as a whistle indicating that this is NOT a lack of oil change problem.
Make sure they install a new timing cover, oil pump gears and oil pump cover if they see heavy scoring in the aluminum and on pump gear.
I haven't had problems with worn main and rod bearings due to that the contaminated oil only reach the oil filter and not the oil galleys.
I nowadays if the customer wants to, remove the balance chain and sprockets and plug the oil hole behind tensioner by tapping the hole to M6 and put a short screw in there. That saves some money.
Otherwise, it is all chains, guides and balance shaft tensioner. Both balance shaft sprockets and maybe the idler sprocket too.
