i have a 1996 900se turbo, manual. I have been plagued with the CEL forever too. I relplaced the vacuum hoses with 5/32" hose, 7/32" is too large. The hoses for the vacuum to the blow-off valve and the PCV (which really isn't a PCV) were deteriorated and needed replacing.
My car only has 67K miles and all the problems started with a bad tech who replaced the serpentine belt 4 yrs ago. Hence, the low miles now.
My car is running rich at idle. It puffs BLACK smoke at stoplights. I live in a rural community and I can't find the "PCV" valve to replace if that's the problem DEAN? It's flow is away from the valve cover Y connection. 7/32" was too large? is 5/32"'s too small? could it be the PCV? The car is a good car until it was compromised by a tech who put the vac's on the wrong outlets to the boost control valve. I drove it to Denver, ailing, and the tech there identified it in a 1/2 block on the test drive. Also the tail pipe had been stuffed full of insulation (I assume from an angry previous client of the tech who cost me 1200 bucks and was paid to replace the belt). He also put bosch plugs in it and charged me 250 for a minor tune up. Replaced with NGK 7's in Denver.
I'd sell my 96, 900 se turbo convertible to a tech who could treat it right. It was such a good car until then. It just needs some TLC from someone who can track down some small problem. replaced the DIC, exhaust, CAT, O2 sensors, vacuum hoses, Y splitter off valve cover, Turbo boost control valve, Plugs, plugs, plugs, always use name brand fuel at 91 octane, but techron in ever other fill up. STill, black smoke at idle, CEL and black clouds on exceleration in town. Interstate travel is great! sometimes with enough miles the CEL goes out.
I'm loyal to the little car. It's just has a small problem and I'm about to give up.
