Testing some 9-3s but WOW...rough ride on these cars?

Friends,
Do the 9-3SE cars have a rough ride generally speaking? We're test driving one now, and for a car that seems relatively luxurious inside it sure does have a rough ride. My '94 9000 is much smoother and easier and quieter than this. Makes me wonder. Also, I hear an airy, fluttery sort of sound near the back of the car when driving at higher speeds...as though I've left a door slightly ajar or a window open or the sunroof open. Making sure none of that was happening, I tried again. Still the noisy, airy, fluttery sound back there.
I worry that the car (which otherwise looks great) has been in an accident.
CarFax shows nothing of the sort, but still...I can't help but wonder, especially when the previous owner (there have been two) told me that she had to replace the tires every six months.
Odd.
Any thoughts, advice, suggestions?
Anyone know a really reputable mechanic who knows this generation of 9-3s in the State of Maine who can look the car over for me? It would be money well spent, I'm sure.
Thanks, friends.
Julia
