Long trip in a "new" (used) car?

I had a 2000 9-3SE, midnight blue, for 3 years before I moved out of the US (I lived in Bermuda for 3 years). I recently moved back and just purchased a 2000 9-3SE, red for $8k. It has 93K miles on it, auto transmission, and is in TX. I'm in MA.
I am planning on flying down there one way with my wife, and then we are going to make an adventure out of it driving back up here to Boston (assuming that everything is in working order when we actually get there).
In the photos (eBay auction item #270013897982), it is clear that the SID has a lot of pixels out, but that doesn't really matter for actually driving the car. Also curious what is hanging over the brake pedal, and if the antenna goes down (appears so in one pic).
Any suggestions on what to check when I get there? Suggestions on the trip?
For the amount of money and how little we will drive it once it is back here, I'm fine with the amount of money I spent on it, even if it needs a few thousand more dollars in repairs.
My main concern in driving it back is if something goes dramatically wrong, what to do. Or should I skip the fun route and just ship it back?
I'm open to suggestions, criticism, and whimsical ideas - I'm just happy to have a Saab again (although it is mostly my wife who will be driving it since I work from home).
