Hope the trip goes well, sounds like an adventure.
The DIC is good medicine, you'll want one anyway, boy I thought they were going pretty cheap ~$200.
You will be able to change it, just need to handle the 4 torx screws on the top - a screwdriver came in the trunk for it (check for it).
Idler pully for serp belt would be a good item to replace, it's cheap, won't usually last the life of the belt. Mechanic could do it for you in 15 mins.
Flush coolant, change oil, consider synthetic.
I'd locate a local Saab indy down there and have it in for some TLC.
Looks in pretty good condition!
