AC work isn't too hard, but you need the right tools, which aren't expensive compared to what a shop charges in labor. Buy a general AC work shop book. You will need a vacuum pump, the one you show here will work, but requires massive amounts of compressed air (venturi effect) in order to draw the system down to a complete vacuum. The best alternative is to find a compressor out of a refridgerator or window AC unit, wire a three pronged plug and solder a fitting onto the intake side. It will pull an adequate vacuum for the hobbyist, unless you go into AC repair for a living. Replace the hoses, o rings, and reciever/dryer, add a little compressor oil, pull a vacuum and check for leaks, then charge the correct amount. Buy a book, you might be surprised how easy it is, if you have mechanical aptitude.
