I got back today from my trip picking up my red 2000 9-3SE (TX to MA, over 2k miles, the car now has just under 95k mi).
I am blown away by how well the car performs even with that many miles. It feels tighter than the 2000 9-3SE I had from 00-03. I got 30mpg the whole way back, which by my reasoning doesn't point to any major issues with the engine (or am I way off on that, could you have a sludge problem and still get great mileage?).
It currently needs some minor cosmetic things like the front grill, a fog lamp, the side bumpers are falling off (appears to be a heat issue), there is some bubbling in the black tape on the passenger side door support and a tear in the weatherstripping that looks like it was an attempt to get in, windshield wipers are awful and the front spray nozzles are hilariously misaligned (they shoot over the car if at all), the SID needs to be replaced, I think it just said today that I need to replace the remote battery, but I am not sure since the SID is missing a lot of pixels. It says "LACE ATTERY CK" or something like that, perhaps a different order. The brights don't work, there was an info error message (that I couldn't read other than some part of BRIGHTS), and the regular lights appear to not be aimed correctly (driving at night was not fun, so I didn't do much of it).
The doors all feel off when they close, not sure what the issue is there, and something is definitely swinging around on the inside of the driver side door.
There is only one key/remote, so I will want to get another one.
I have a spare DIC in the trunk, and other than that, maybe there is an issue with the shocks or the front suspension since when I went over bumps at low speed, it felt/sounded all wrong.
There was also a lot of wheel shaking going on at speeds 50-80mph, but not on all road surfaces. The tires are Yokahamas or something like that, they are pretty loud at highway speeds.
I'm not sure how much all of that will cost me, but it all seems totally reasonable small things.
I'm thrilled with this car - for $7900 it was a great deal in my opinion. Now I just need to get the state registration settled and these little issues fixed.
Any suggestions/comments are always welcome (especially if anything that I mentioned that seems small to me is actually something that is a bigger deal).
