If you take the pads out, you'll know whether they are wedged in tightly into the caliper. The area where the pad backing plate touches top & bottom inside the caliper, that may need to be cleaned up with a file so it fits nicely into the caliper. When you install the pads into the caliper they'll either slide in nicely (good) or you'll have to pound on them to get them in (bad).
BTW JimN, there's 2 pistons in each rear caliper.
