Thanks much to all you guys - Berger, Gary, michael p.
Berger's method for the ball joint worked like a charm! I thought I tried that last night, not sure why it didn't work then. Lack of sleep?
As for the suspension stuff, yes, it's definitely the bushing causing the trouble. I almost have it back in place. I think I can get it. My bolts did not look very corroded or bad. An advantage to having a southern VA/NC car. I will still clean them and loctite like michael suggested.
I already bought the CV boot clamp tool. Definitely no desire to do this job twice. The sad part of the story is that I noticed the torn CV boot last December (!) but I used the new baby, etc. as an excuse for ages not to do the work. Now I'm paying for it with bad bearings and joint replacement.
I'll post back when the job is done! Parts arrive tomorrow.
