Just check out what you have left for a wheel jacking it up and spinning it. I myself have even jacket my car up and turned her on but it in drive to see how the wheel is balance. I stole that diagnostic from a Saab mechanic, definitely dangerous, but what the hell.
You are at a disadvantage, 17" rims with low profile tires; they would never last here in New England. The more rubber the better the cushion, if you see your rim or more is bent it will cost you, $130+. I found that it was sometimes better to get a new rim. I have switched to 205/55x16 from 205/50x16 and I was night and day and never have trouble with pot holes trashing my car.
