I think many will agree with me as far as the quality being less in the post GM vehicles.
I have talked to 2 different independent Indies. Both agreed in many items that have gone way downhill.
some include:
1. Clutch (including silly cable and discs)
2. Fuel Pump
3. DIC ( I will not say more)
4. SID (we all know how that is)
5. serpintine pulley setup
6. Fuel system
7. waterpump O-Rings
8. retorqueing of head bolts (should NEVER happen)
I completely understand with any car, there are repairs. It really seems though there are many repairs because of poor design. Also, it does seem from a customer standpoint that Saab takes full advantage of charging rediculous amounts of money for these common replacement parts.
It was stated that I was complaining and I should NOT, seeing as my car is close to 10 years old. Let me remind you that my 10 year old car is not far over 100K miles, and ALWAYS maintained to the fullest. Whenever I am given some type of warning on a failure, I have always had it addressed to prevent future problems. I guess that is why I have been lucky for the most part. I have had a couple of large dollar items go, but for the most part, I have only encountered a lot of headaches.
