I recently did the same procedure. The underside of the car was generally rust free except for the roll bar and attached hardware. Liquid Wrench did nothing so it came down to breaking the bolt heads and using a chisel to pop them out (semi-easily...). The hole where the bolts go in to secure the bar are not threaded on my car so there is not a huge worry about damage in that respect when removing the original equipment. The new bar popped in easily and made a world of a difference.
