I had good experience with Copper High-Temperature Gasket Maker.
I was replacing a flex pipe today, and took two joints apart.
The copper stuff that I put on a year ago had nice consistency of soft rubber. It was springy and clingy. Took me a while with a wire bruch to remove its remains from the contact surfaces. The other joint was professionally done at the dealership two years ago. Turns out, they also used some kind of compound to seal the joint. It was black and was very firm.
I also used copper Lock-Tite on the clamp bolts, and that paid off well. I was able to undo all bolts without any damage. Everytime before that (when I did not use anything on the bolts) I had nothing but broken heads, and always had to buy new brackets.
