...and I'll emphasize this is my own opinion based on personal experience...(I do not want to offend anyone) the Saab 2.5 V6 is a horrible piece of engineering that Saab should have been forced to recall long ago. I had two, a 94 and a 95. Both had timing belt changes at 30000 intervals. neither had belt failure, but they both had cam pulleys loosen causing catastrophic top-end failure well within the 30000 change interval. The 94 was done at my indie, and we replaced the heads. It ran great for another 40000 miles (and thru another t-belt replacement) and then had cam pulley failure again. The 95 had the t-belt replaced free at a Saab dealer at 90k, and 10k miles later the cam pulley loosened and trashed that engine. All Saab would do is offer a $2000 coupon towards the purchase of a new car. In addotion, a friend had the crank pulley on the t-belt shear it's key causing the same catastrophic top-end failure, again, well within the 30k belt replacement interval.

Ask yourself why vendors on this site advertise Saab 2.5 replacement engines. You don't see them advertising 2.3 or 2.0 four cylinder engines, do you? That's because Saab's 4 cylinder engines are outstanding, and the V6 is junk.

Again, this is my OPINION, and I sincerely hope I don't offend anyone with this. I would never again, under ANY circumstances, buy another Saab V6. I have two Saabs in my drive right now, and have had ten all together. I'm glad my horrible experiences with the two V6s didn't damper my enthusiasm for an otherwise great car!

Are you sure you only have a head gasket failure? If so I suggest finding a good indie to fix it, and then consider selling the car before it fails you when you least expect it.
