I'm new to Saabs and this is my first post here. I just looking for some advice from some experienced Saab people. I'm looking at a 1999 Viggen with 102,500 miles that is only $6500, but the car has a reconditioned title. The car is being sold by a dealer who is also a reputable VW shop in Austin, TX. The owner has been buying wrecked cars, fixing them, and selling them for many years.
He claims that the Viggen suffered only cosmetic damage to the front end. He showed me pics of what the car looked like when he got it. The front bumper cover, headlights, both front fenders and hood were replaced. He claims that NO mechanical work was required. It appeared to me that everything at the front of the engine bay was all orignal.
The car does need some immediate repairs. It needs new brakes all the way around, rotors and pads. And the transmission has quite a bit of vibration. The gear shifter kinda "jumps around" while in gear and under acceleration. Would that be related to a bad tranny support??
The car seemed to drive very well and accellerated very strongly. The suspension and steering seemed in good shape as well. The car did not pull to one way or the other.
So does anybody have any advice on specific things to check for on the Viggen? Or any advice on cars with reconditioned titles? Thank you very much for your help!
