EnviroSafe if DIY

The link in my previous post goes directly to a number of reports regarding HC refrigerants in general, not just EnviroSafe's HC product. Unless you have an installer's license, anything you buy from them should contain leak tracing dye. (I know that all the product I bought from them did.)
The snag in having a shop work with this stuff is just as Anders said. By law here in the US, only R12 & R134a are "approved" refrigerants, so any other product is (by default) considered a "contaminant." If you're planning on DIY (as you mentioned in your 1st post), then it wouldn't matter if you used HC. Also, since you suspect a hose leak, all your refrigerant is going to escape anyway & it again doesn't matter if you fill with HC. (In fact, since EnviroSafe is more benign than either R12 or R134a, I'd think it would be the preferred chemical to identify the leak problem.)
As for me, I bought enough EnviroSafe HC refrigerant to refill the R12 system in my '90 900 (which has been at least as cold as the original R12 fill), the R134a system in my wife's '99 9³ (none used yet, since it's still on its original R134a fill), & the house's A/C unit (12a system?) as well. The test reports proved to me that it's the best product available.
