I have just emailed Dean the text below, but thought it would be of benefit if everybody could have a look.
"Hi Dean,
First of all thank you for all your regular input to the forums. I am one of the many who only make the odd contribution but read regularly and have resolved many problems as a result of the many kind postings such as yours.
I have just read in detail your post of 10 Jan 2006 regarding IAC. It does not quite answer my problem, and if you possibly have the time, could you read through my problem and reply with any comments?
Background: I have a 1999 Viggen with very low milage (kms actualy - I'm in Australia, only 52,000kms). I've had the car four years and its been treated very well, although it was pushed hard 2 years ago (RPM'S went to the red a few times in 2nd gear and limiter kicked in) during a short track day. Otherwise the car is well maintained and driven.
The problem: About a year ago I had a CEL, and there is no doubt in my mind it is the IAC. I have been driving with the light on with no performance issues, just inconvenience. I used to drive a 1970's car in the UK with a manual choke so I know all about variable idle speeds!
I've dismantled the TB and given it a very good clean with carb cleaner - hardly any deposits and what was there was soft. I have also removed all the ECU fuses and this resets the ECU clearing the CEL. However, within a few minuets (even in neutral after cranking the engine before driving away) you can clearly hear the 4 or five cilcks and clacks of the (I pressume) the solenid and the CEL comes on. However prior to the CEL coming on as a result of the solenoid the IAC works normaly! - the RPM's get the usual cold start 'boost' on a cold start, but as soon as the CEL comes on its back to the usual low revs until the engine warms. The car drives perfectly after it warms, but as soon as the AC is turned on the revs drop again. (luckily the last few summers have not been too hot!).
My question: If I know the IAC is working normaly, what causes the solenoid to kick in even after the ECU has been reset? Is there anything I can try. My dealr has told me to get a new TB which is big$$.
Any help or ideas?
Thank you again.
Regards,
Mark."
