This is what I learned from Saab of Baltimore. Once the dealer attempts to solve a warranty problem, it is considered a closed item. It doesn't matter if they fix the problem or not. From their perspective, that action item is done. Right before my car came out of warranty, I had an issue with my cabin fan that they could not duplicate or rectify. So, that item is technically still pending. The service manager said if the problem persists, he would replace the fan within 6 months (or so) after the warranty expiration. This might be something specific to Saab of Baltimore, but I think it's a good thing. So, if you have some problems, don't let them simply throw parts at it, make sure they actually fix the problem. I've had tricky issues in the past, and I think other dealers simply replaced various parts to close the warranty item and get me out of there.
Also, take the car in soon to give yourself time to take it in again, if necessary. Dealers, in my experience, often have trouble duplicating problems that happen for me all the time... strange... ;)
