I had the same symptoms 2 months ago when my radio went dead after I ran the battery down overnight and got a jump from another car to start it: the radio would not respond to anything. I tried all tricks mentioned on the board (holding ON button, holding BAND button, checking fuses in radio and fusebox, playing with radio diagnostics fuse) and could not get radio to turn on at all. It wouldn't even ask for "code in"!
The only action I can think of that may have killed the radio was that the polarity got reversed on the discharged battery for about 5 seconds when trying to connect the jumper cables. My alternator and electrical system is still OK, but I had to go and buy a used radio from another car.
I'm guessing you may have reversed polarity when installing your battery. If someone else installed it for you, the dead radio is their fault.
