'98 9-3 Dies Randomly

We bought a used '98 9-3 SE in February, with about 65,000 km on it.
It's been fine, with one exception; in the two months that we've had it, it's suddenly stalled when idling (usually in traffic) twice.
Both times, we had been driving for a little while (i.e., the engine was reasonably warm), it was a moderate temperature outside (we live in Australia) and the engine was idling; the throttle wasn't being touched, but we had just braked to a stop.
Both times, the car *completely* died; i.e., no SID, no lights, engine wouldn't turn over; the only thing that did work was the emergency flashers. To restart it, we had to wait a few seconds, put the transmission (auto) in park, remove the key and then restart it; turning the key to "off" and then "start" had no effect.
When it did restart, the date on the SID was January 1, which indicates to me that everything *really* lost power.
My questions:
- Does this sound familiar? Where should we start? The problem I've got is that while this car is under warranty for another month or so, it's difficult to take it to the dealer and say "fix this problem" if it happens so intermittently.
- I initially suspected vacuum leaks, but it doesn't happen very often; usually, the car idles fine. Also, the SID losing the date makes me suspect that it's more of an electrical problem. Is it normal for a Saab to lose the date, etc. when it stalls?
Any help would be appreciated; I may take it into a local Saab specialist (Swedish Prestige) for a second opinion, but wanted to figure out if there's anything helpful I could tell them or look for first.
Thanks,
