"Check Engine" light is intermittantly coming on

Hey,
I have a 1998 900 SE convertible.
I went to my Saab/Volvo specialty shop with this. After 2 and a half days in the shop they found that I needed a new purge valve. So they replaced it...as well as a loose or broken transmount?? OK, so both get fixed.
I take the car home and go to work in the morning and the "check engine" light comes on again.
I go back to the place in the afternoon and they spend another couple of hours to find this....or as best as I can describe. The tech sees that the "grounding" message..something like that, is leaving...but dropping off somewhere and not reaching its destination of some sort? They want to try to replace the ECM...they admit that it might not be the problem, but they think it is and they HAVE found the code for an emissions leak.
They tell me it only really has to be fixed to pass the emissions test.
I am concerned that I don't spend money to have a used ECM put in that may not work...I'll spend all the money on the labor...and I will be back to square 1.
Any thoughts on why this light keeps coming in, emissive leaks, purge valves, ecm's etc.?
Thanks!
Pamela
