Hmmm... My Viggen just started to do something similar, but without the "stealth mode" exhaust. I am suspecting one of the valves that controls boost, since a sticky valve could cause the turbo bypass valve to hang open when it shouldn't. That would explain the sudden bursts of power. I'll make another post if I find the sticky valve, or something else.
I suspect the MAF less, but a little attention to the MAF probably wouldn't hurt, either. I'm going to give mine a good spray tonight with CRC MAF cleaner (available at NAPA for about $5). Last year, when I was getting a "lean mix" code, the MAF sensor cleaner fixed it, and the code has not returned. It's a lot cheaper than a new MAF, so worth a try. The Delphi MAF used on the T7 cars doesn't have a burn-clean mechanism to remove oil film like the Bosch MAFs used on older SAABs.
BTW, when my CEL was on for the MAF failure, I still got full boost, so I have doubts that the MAF alone is the culprit.
