I recently (about 5,000 miles ago) switched from Bridgestone Turanza LS-V to Kumho Ecsta ASX.
The Kumho's are definitely less expensive. That's the only thing about them that is better than the Bridgestones.
I have two complaints:
1. They are asymmetric and have an "inside" and an "outside". I hope I'm expaining this clearly - as you look at the tread, it is different from one side to the other. But one side has to be toward the inside. And Kumho only makes one version. The result is that the tires won't seem to match when on your car. One side will appear to be on backwards. Look at a picture of the tread and you may get the idea.
2. This one is really annoying. They are a pain in the rear to balance and keep balanced. I don't know what the deal is. I am not very picky about my tires being bsalanced, but I drove right back to the store after I ggot them and said "you've got to be kidding". They were horrible. So they did some more advanced balancing (whatever that is) and they were ok. Not great. Now, 5,000 miles later, they are out of balance again. I have never ever had this problem with other tires. I do remember reading some feedback here or on tirerack that they were hard to balance, but I shrugged it off as nitpicking. For me, it's really noticeable.
Some people swear by them, but I'll never get Kumho tires again. I believe the people who love them but that just means to me that their manufacturing is inconsistent. I prefer always lousy to randomly lousy. At least then you know what you're getting.
I'm rambling. To summarize, I think the ecsta ASX is poorly manufactured.
