Rear Hatch Brake light bub replacement

Giday,
It would appear that the strip of red brake lights (they look like led lights) located in the rear hatch of my 1996 900s are starting to die. This would validate the intermittent 'failed brake light' reading I get everynow and then from the dash computer.
Could anyone please advise the process of replacing the bulbs, is it external or internal fitment?
Thanks in advance.
Jason
