2000 9-3 convert---low miles, oil change every 10K

Hi there,
I've been looking at buying a used Saab lately and am now evaluating a 2000 9-3 convert. It has 56K miles. I would be buying this from a second owner who has owned the vehicle since 2003, 23K.
The car exterior and interior look good. It's an automatic. The AC controls are manual.
The owner has all maintenance records: DIC, SID and fuel pump replaced. Oil changes happened every 10K miles--this concerns me because of short trips, long time periods between oil changes.
I have not yet decided whether or not to spend the time and money to have it inspected by a mechanic. If I do take it to a mechanic, I'll make sure the valve cover is removed and the engine checked for sludge. But, if there is no sludge, is there a greater chance of it to develop given its past?
Also, twice a week I drive 90 miles each way for meetings (mostly open freeway.
I would appreciate any suggestions on what I should look out for and any thoughts on whether I should move forward with a mechanic inspection given what I already know.
Thanks!
