You're right to be concerned about the potential for sludge.
10k oil changes with this engine put you right in the wheelhouse for sludge problems. Worse, if the stories around here are true, you'll be fighting a real uphill battle to get Saab to cover your engine. They did extend the warranty against sludge up to 100k miles, but you'll have to show that you changed the oil and they may well say that 10k isn't the correct interval.
Mike Lynch may well be right and you may be fine. But 10k oil changes should raise the red flags. Thoroughly check out the engine for sludge.
As for Ron and MD Snaab, there's general advice about oil and there's advice specific to this particular saab engine. This particular engine is really tough on oil for reasons that aren't hard to research around here. As I recall Saab changed their oil recommendation to a max of 5k with full synthetic (not the semi-syn they used to push).
On the plus side, the auto trannies seem really durable.
