No power after exhaust replacement Posted by IanC [Email] ![]() ![]() ![]() |
I just installed a sport exhaust system to replace my rotted out exhaust. I replaced everything from the flex pipe back (was told the kit was cat back but it wasn't). Cat was replaced a year and a half ago.
Car runs OK but no power. Doesn't want to go above 3,000 rpm, seems like. I plugged the tailpipe and used a hose to listen for leaks along the flex pipe and all of the connections, didn't hear anything. However, I hear a sound that sounds like air leaking when accelerating so I still suspect a leak.
Does the fact the engine still ran with the pipe plugged mean there is a leak? I strongly suspect the flex pipe but don't want to just replace parts chasing a problem. I had to drive a fair amount with the old exhaust system with a massive leak and experienced the same loss of power. Could I have damaged anything else?
I checked the plugs (OK), used a spare DI cassette (maybe a slight improvement), and disconnected the battery for a while to reset the computer.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you,
Ian
