Car dies without warning

Recently while driving around townin my '97 900s non-turbo the chime goes ding-dong, all of the needles rest as if the car is off then jump up and down a bit and the ABS light comes on then all of the needles come back to life and everything is back to normal.
Well yesterday, my 900 went totally black. I was going about 25 mph and the engine stopped, all the needles went to the off position and no lights came on at all. It was like the entire car was completely dead. So I pulled off to the side, turned the key to off then tried to start it and it started normally. As I accelerated it died again. So I let it sit for a couple minutes, it started and no problems for the rest of the day.
In the mornings when its cool. It will not start on the first try. It will start then immediately die. Then when you turn it over again it runs fine.
My most recent svc was an oil/filter and fuel filter change. None of this happened at all before this service.
Is this coincidence or is something else wrong?
