When the dealership denied the sludge claim, I pointed out to them that the use of Saab parts and synthetic oils were listed as RECOMMENDED and not MANDATORY in the owner's manual. I also stated that, since getting the letter from Saab regarding the sludge issue, I had only used Saab filters and synthetic oils. They still said no. I called the Saab Service line to complain, and they sent me a letter, reiterating that I was denied for not using the RECOMMENDED oil and filter. So I don't really know where else to go with this. I thought I had done everything right, but apparently not.
As for the overheating, I don't drive more than 10-15 minutes, twice a day (I live in the city), in not much traffic. And I just had the 60,000 mile check earlier this year, which was supposed to replace all fluids. They fixed many things in addition, but didn't find any issue having to do with the thermometer. And I believe that, while they didn't correct the sludge issue, they did drain the pan (or whatever is done to clean things up).
The car occasionally won't start...it's very random. I will take a short trip to a 7-11 and, when I get back to the car, it does nothing...won't turn over, nada. There's no whirring or anything. The power will still work, so I know it's not the battery. Sometimes it will take only a few minutes to restart, sometimes an hour. But it always starts cold, first thing in the morning.
