Engine knocking - What Next?

I've been hearing some knocking from my '00 9-3 base recently and would like to track it down.
Here's what I've done:
- checked and re-gapped plugs (they looked okay. they'll be replaced at 90k)
- ran a tank through with Techron
- upped to mid-grade and then to premium gas
- checked air filter (a little dirty, will be replaced at 90k service)
- took a quick look at the vacuum line
Other points:
- Mileage: 88,500
- No check engine light is on.
- DIC was replaced under recall in June, 2006
What else should I be looking at?
From discussions here on the board, a malfunctioning o2 sensor (which one?) has been mentioned as a possible source of a poorly running engine, but I assume that would trigger a CEL?
There's lots of talk of the MAF sensor in T7 engines, but I get good boost up to the border between the yellow and red areas on the gauge.
Thanks in advance.
