Yes, the exhaust gas recirculation condensation goes through the dipstick tube in SAAB's later revisions of the system. If this car does not have the revisions, (missing tube or incorrect orifice diameter), that could also cause problems.
One of the symptoms of sludging to look for is a cruddy EGR system. I would get a better view of the camshafts before making the purchase. This should give you a good enough evaluation of the condition. The only true way to tell is to have a look at the pickup screen in the sump but that's alot of work for a pre-purchase inspection.
