After cutting half the rear floor away which must do wonders for body stiffness, I was finally able to uncover the mystery of the fuel pump. It was intermittent and basically DOA. Sadly the next mystery was to find a new pump only as most suppliers sell only the complete assembly. After much digging I found that NAPA carries a pump only and has little clue as to which tubing should be used and Scan-Tech has a replacement kit which is the one I chose. A day later a kind Walbro tech traced the pump numbers and determined the pump, original #A0S006, was replaced by 5CA3360 and could be purchased for $77.57 at the following link:

http://www.fuel-pumps.net/fuel-pumps-saab---o-e----s--aos006--aos005--4021358---4161493.html

Oh well, the Scan-tech was $125 at the The Parts Bin:

I'll let you know whether the Scan-tech is simply a Walbro OEM replacement in a Scan-Tech box. The Scan-tech does come with the tank filter screen so I guess it's worth the extra $47. All in all I have found the mystery of where the pump was located, why the inspection hole does not even come close to the actual pump location, the mystery of what pump goes in this vehicle, any other related unpleasantries, and the host of other unbelievable features this car has, such as 2 quarts of oil every 1000 miles since the car was driven out of the showroom, to the reason I'll never buy another new Saab. I've had seven 900's and not one has given me the problems this one has. My '86 had 450,000 miles and burned approx. 1/2 quart every 3,000 miles right up to the end. My 9/3 had 5,000 miles and a fresh oil change. I took it on my first road trip and went to fill it up for the third time and noticed the engine was ticking. Imagine my surprise to find no oil on the stick and after putting in 2 quarts the oil barely reached the tip. Another quart and I was off. Three more quarts later and I was home approximately 3,000 into the trip. I asked the dealer if their were any turbo issues and they said none. At 35,000 miles and many low oil situations, I parked the car at the dealer and told them I didn't want a car that burned that much oil. The cloud at that point was as large as the car upon start up. They installed a new turbo and told me they changed one per week. So all of a sudden we went from no turbo issues to one per week. And that about sums up dealers. Didn't burn any oil for approximately 25,000 miles and then slowly started up again. Currently at about 1 quart per 1,000 miles. I change the oil and filter every 3,000 miles religiously. My biggest concern, which the dealer also said would be a non-factor, is what driving a car with little oil in it would effect it's longevity. My guess is that I'll be lucky to reach 200K. So much for Saab invincibility. And now I understand the Chevy mid-size and Saab chassis' are identical? My question is, is the Chevy a Saab or the other way around? From what I've witnessed as of late, the answer is clear.
