You should be able to loosen/adjust the MBC without too much difficulty. If you can't, carefully mark the hoses as hooked up, maybe take a digital photo or two. Remove the MBC. Either put it in a vise or find a few wrenches. There are two sections to the MBC and a then lock nut on the upper part, tightened against the lower part. Hold the lower part with a wrench or vise and loosen the lockbut. If the locknut has wrench flanges on it, use another wrench, if it's knurled, use vise grips. It will come loose. Once it does, reinstall the unit in the car. Make a slight adjustment, and road test.

Putting more horsepower through the tranny with an MBC could cause more clutch wear *if* you push the car it a lot (fast starts, fast gear changes with heavy throttle). On the other hand, if you don't push the car hard then the extra HP won't wear the clutch any faster than normal. If the clutch is already worn, then tromping on the gas (putting lots of torque/HP through it) will show that it slips (but not *cause* it... the cause is that it is worn out).

You've gotten a fair amount of mileage from the clutch. It may be worn. Then again, it may not. I've found that the best way to detect a slipping clutch is to put the car in a higher gear (perhaps 4th) and step on the throttle hard. See if it slips. You should be able to see the RPMs climbing without feeling the engine actually pulling the car any harder. You can also try pulling away in 2nd or even third gear - if it's going to slip, it's in these sort of high torque situations that it will happen.
